Minutes of the Choctaw Tribal Council 5-6-94

Charley Jones introduced the following Council Bill: CB-99-94

Speaker Durant recognized Charley Jones. Councilman Jones presented the following motion.

MOTION: That the Tribal Council approve this Council Bill. Seconded by Bertram Bobb. Any discussion.

Speaker Durant stated, we have approved several things for this. There's two things that the Chief has told me. There is a new time limit of six months to be able to file against a person. I forget the other one. After this is approved we should be able to hold court over here on any Choctaw's and if they desire a Jury then we will have to bring in some jurors for them. It's a good thing. It will give us more lead way and able us to hand out justice and to run our own things. Not pertaining to this is that Merrit Youngdeer the Area Director is holding up our trust land status on our Hugo land for our Truck Stop. I don't know what we can do, Greg, but the Inter-Tribal Council, if we can get all five Tribes to pass a Resolution that would make him have to approve something within 90 to 120 days would be good. He sits on it for a year to two years, like the Pocola property. They've got new people up there now, a woman for Environmental Impact and she's sitting on it. It hinders the Tribes when they can't get people to help them. I'd like for Greg to talk to the Chief and see if we could do anything like that.

Greg Pyle stated, Mr. Speaker, you may want to have the Area Directors from time to time come to the Inter-tribal meetings and ask them to explain to you what's going on.

Speaker Durant stated, that's a good idea. Let's send a letter asking him to appear before the Council. and we will let him explain to us why it takes so much time. While we are talking about this the Chief won his case with the lady at Hugo. Doug Dry tells the papers that we re going to bring it up in Tribal Court. Which is fine, but the time limit has expired. But, we will find out. They never leave him alone or the Council either. Vote.

MOTION PASSED Roll call vote. YES - 11. NO - 0. ABSTAIN - 0.

A unanimous vote.

D) Approve General fund expense in the amount of $150,000 for discretionary funds for tornado victims and to make repairs on Wheelock Academy.
